Rescue Underway for Distressed Hiker

Marana Police Officers and Northwest Fire Personnel are conducting a joint rescue operation in the Tortolita Mountains behind the Ritz Carlton Resort. The 68 year old hiker called 911 at approximately 12:45 pm, reporting he was hiking on the trailheads behind the Ritz Carlton Hotel and became lost after hiking away from one of the main trails. He was alone and reported he was very low on water. Marana Police Officers initiated a Search and Rescue Operation. Officers hiked to his location and were able to locate the lost hiker utilizing the GPS Coordinates from his cellular phone. After Officers reached him, the hiker began displaying signs of moderate dehydration and required medical assistance. Northwest Fire Medical Personnel were immediately contacted and responded. Northwest Fire Personnel have reached the hikers location and are administering medical treatment. The Department of Public Safety’s Helicopter (Ranger) has been deployed to the location to assist with the rescue operation as well.
