The Marana Police Department, in collaboration with the Tucson Police Department, has arrested a suspect in connection to robberies in Marana and Tucson. On April 27, 2016, Detectives from the Marana Police Department and Tucson Police Department arrested 32-year-old John Michael Hayden Jr at a residence in Tucson. After obtaining a search warrant for the residence, Detectives worked together and collected multiple items of evidentiary value linking Hayden Jr to the crimes. Marana Detectives have charged Hayden Jr for one count of armed robbery and one count of prohibited possessor of a firearm. The charges are in connection to the armed robbery at the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market located at 3901 W. Ina Road on March 26, 2016. Hayden Jr was dressed as a construction worker at the time of the incident. Tucson Police Detectives have charged Hayden Jr with one count of robbery and one count of aggravated assault. These charges are in connection to a case that occurred on April 8, 2016 at the East Lawn Cemetery, located at 5801 E. Grant Road. During that incident, a 67-year-old woman was injured after she was assaulted and had her purse stolen by a male suspect. An alert witness at the cemetery observed the male leave in a vehicle and were able to take a photograph of the vehicle and obtain a partial license plate. The female was transported to the Tucson Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Detectives and Analysts from both agencies learned the same male suspect was potentially involved in both incidents. The Detectives began working together and through the collaborative efforts, were able to identify a suspect. Hayden Jr was booked into the Pima County Jail. Additional charges may still be added, pending further investigation by both agencies. This was an excellent example of agencies working together to get a violent criminal off the streets and keeping our communities safe.
