Group Credited With Saving Teen’s Life after a Rollover Accident: Tucson, Arizona – May 1, 2015 The Northwest Fire District and the Marana Policed Department will honor the actions of four good samaritans credited with saving the life of 17 year-old Sabrina Montejano on April 3, 2015. ---- INCIDENT SYNOPSIS: On April 3, a Friday afternoon, four teenagers were traveling in a car that left the roadway and overturned along the frontage road of Interstate 10 near Twin Peaks Road. The car Sabrina Montejano had been driving came to rest upside down in a flowing irrigation canal, trapping her underwater. Andrew Miles and Alexander Stewart came upon the incident moments after it took place to find a group of bystanders struggling to lift the overturned car above the water line. Andrew and Alexander secured tow straps and chains to the overturned vehicle and used their trucks to pull the car up and out of the canal. Two additional bystanders, Alex Romero and Mark Beach, then entered the canal and cut Sabrina’s seatbelt away to free her from the wreckage. The citizens utilized their first-aid and CPR training, and brought Sabrina to the roadside and assessed her condition. They determined that she was not breathing, had no pulse, and that CPR was needed in an attempt to save her life. They continued their efforts until first responders arrived and took over care. When Sabrina arrived at Banner UMC, she was breathing on her own and attempting to speak. --- A formal ceremony to honor the heroic actions of these four individuals will take place at the beginning of the Marana Town Council meeting on May 5th 2015 where they will be presented with Citizen Lifesaving Awards by the Northwest Fire Department and Marana Police Department. The Council meeting starts at 7:00pm. Sabrina and her family will reunite with the good samaritans and first responders before the meeting 6:15pm. Responders, good samaritans, and members of the Montejano family will be available for interviews just after the awards presentation in the lobby of the Marana Municipal Complex. The address of the meeting and gathering is 11555 West Civic Center Drive. Please contact Sgt. Chris Warren from Marana Police or Captain Adam Goldberg from Northwest Fire with any questions. ###
