The Steven M. Gootter Foundation donated six AED’s (automated external defibrillators) to the Marana Police Department. The AED’s will be distributed among Marana Police patrol cars. The formal presentation took place during a press conference on Friday, September 19th at the Marana Police Department. Mayor Honea, Town Manager Gilbert Davidson, Deputy Town Manager Jamsheed Mehta, Councilmember Carol McGorray, and Chief of Police Terry Rozema joined the Messing family in attendance for the presentation. Andrew Messing, the President of the Gootter Foundation, presented Chief Terry Rozema with the 6 new AED’s. Chief Rozema thanked the Steven M Gootter Foundation for their donation. Chief Rozema said, “If one of these devices is able to save just one person’s life, then your donations will have more than paid for themselves.” Police Officers are often first on the scene when a cardiac event is reported. Although one can never predict when and where a sudden cardiac event will take place, by placing AEDs in patrol cars with officers who have been trained on how to use these devices, there is a greater chance the sudden cardiac victim can be saved. The Town of Marana and the Marana Police Department are extremely grateful to the Gootter Foundation for their generosity and donating these life saving devices. We are proud of the partnership our organizations have built and we look forward to continuing to work together in the future. Since July 2009, the Gootter Foundation has distributed over 110 AEDs to schools, places of worship, recreational centers, and public places throughout Southern Arizona. Training on the use of the AED and continuous chest compression is provided for each recipient. For more information on the Gootter Foundation, please visit www.gootter.org Contact: Sgt.
