On January 29, 2015 at 12:30 am, MPD Officers responded to a suspicious activity call at Gallegos Auto Sales, located at 4479 West Ina Road. A citizen called 911 reporting a person was attempting to steal parts from a vehicle. When Officers arrived on scene, 39 year old Jonathan Paul Martinez was seen climbing out from underneath a vehicle that belonged to the business. Martinez fled on foot when he saw the officers, but was taken into custody following a foot pursuit. The investigation showed Martinez was attempting to steal parts from a vehicle that was on display for sale. The tools Martinez was using were also recovered. Martinez was transported and booked into the Pima County Jail. He was charged with Burglary in the 3rd Degree (Class 4 Felony) and Possession of Burglary Tools (Class 6 Felony). This was an excellent example of a vigilant citizen and a quick response by officers that stopped a crime in progress and protected the property of a local business.
