Press Release

AED Donated by Gootter Foundation

Sent on 9/18/2014 10:23:18 AM

The Steven M. Gootter Foundation will present the Marana Police Department with 6 AEDs (automated external defibrillators) to be distributed among Marana patrol cars. AEDs are lifesaving devices administered to sudden cardiac victims within the first ten minutes of a cardiac event. One’s survival is often predicated by being in the right place at the right time as every minute is critical. Police Officers are often first on the scene when a cardiac event is reported. Although one can never predict when and where a sudden cardiac event will take place, by placing AEDs in patrol cars with officers who have been trained on how to use these devices, there is a greater chance the sudden cardiac victim can be saved. The official announcement will be made at a press conference on Friday, September 19th at 11:30am at the Marana Police Substation at 5100 Ina Road. In addition to Mayor Honea, Marana Police Chief Terry Rozema, and members of the Gootter Foundation will be in attendance. The Town of Marana and the Marana Police Department are extremely grateful to the Gootter Foundation for their generosity and donating these life saving devices. We are proud of the partnership our organizations have built and we look forward to continuing to work together in the future. Since July 2009, the Gootter Foundation has distributed over 110 AEDs to schools, places of worship, recreational centers, and public places throughout Southern Arizona. Training on the use of the AED and continuous chest compression is provided for each recipient. For more information on the Gootter Foundation, please visit
